We reviewed the common names of the 151 species, and subjectively designated the names as begin having either positive (left-hand table) or negative connotations (right-hand table). Note that not all common names are represented in these two tables. Rather, we selected names that we thought had strong positive or negative associations. In some instances, we “pre-selected” names that we thought we might encounter in the data set (e.g., pretty, ugly, beauty).
